I’m just making a quick post about the Colts after seeing them demolish the Saints tonight, 41-10, from the very back row of the upper deck of the RCA Dome. (Don’t laugh. Free tickets are the best tickets.) The reasons for this are twofold:
1. My doing this before them will annoy Jason, Matt and CJ to verying degrees… Jason, most of all.
2. Man oh man. Either the Colts are primed for a serious run at repeating as Super Bowl Champions, or the NFC, after seeing one of its best teams get shredded in every facet of the game, is terrible. I’m thinking a little of column A, and a little of column B.
The Colts linebackers, Rob Morris, Freddie Keiaho and Gary Brackett were outstanding. Brackett led the team (along with cornerback Marlin Jackson) with eight tackles, Morris made two huge stops on third-and-short situations among his seven tackles, and Keiaho, “The Hawaiian Punch,” made the defensive play of the game by levelling Reggie Bush and his blocker on a screen play in the first half, and hauled in his first career interception in the second half. Great teams often start with great linebacker play… just ask fans of the championship teams of the Bears, Giants, Ravens and even the 49ers.

A footrace with Matt Giordano? Uh… you lose. The Colts’ third-year backup safety and special teams gunner iced the scoring by returning this Drew Brees pass for a touchdown in the Colts’ win. He also shadowed the elusive Reggie Bush in coverage all evening, making it difficult for the Saints’ back to find daylight on the field. (image courtesy of cnnsi.com)
I expected the Colts to win tonight, but the ease it their victory makes me pretty optimistic about the rest of the season.
I’m also pretty happy about tossing Jason’s nickname for Freddie Keiaho out there before he could, too. I really do do my best to be a bastard.
